Latest on the Legal Updates

Update 7/23/12: After learning of a warrant for his arrest, Bro. Chartier makes plans to turn himself in on July 31st at the Loma Linda University Church following a press conference. Due to the Adventist church's efforts to have Pastor McGill silenced before holding a similar press conference, Bro. Chartier states his intent to arrive in the area at the time of the event. The location is set to be the same as Pastor McGill's previously planned event.

Update 7/31/12: Following a 20-minute press conference, during which time he was able to deliver a statement to several members of the media, Bro. Chartier submitted himself to the authorities, and was incarcerated for an anticipated period of 10 days. He has vowed to fast as a protest for this violation of his religious liberty, and as a show of support for Pastor McGill. The conference and arrest are covered by the Press Enterprise, Redlands Loma-Linda Patch, and ABC 7 News. Blog coverage is offered by Spectrum Magazine and Adventist Today.

Meanwhile, ANN releases a poorly conceived report on the arrests, containing several false statements and implications in an attempt to justify their actions. A similar report is also broadcast on ANN television, with Todd MacFarlane from the General Conference's Office of General Counsel claiming that Pastor McGill attempted to confuse the public. Please see this F.A.Q. for the facts relevant to these claims.

Update 8/9/12: Bro. Chartier is released following his ten-day incarceration and fast. The Press Enterprise and Redlands-Loma Linda Patch report.

Update 8/11/12: Pastor "Chick" is released from jail following his thirty-day incarceration and fast, and announces his intent to continue his fast an additional ten days for a total of forty. During his incarceration at the behest of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pr. McGill was assaulted for refusing to work on the Sabbath. Pastor McGill read an official statement to assembled media and supporters outside of the jail. The story is covered by Redlands-Loma Linda Patch, as well as Press Enterprise and Spectrum Magazine.
